About

The Tarheel Rambler

Through the Rambler’s Eyes is a follow-up to my previous blog, Tarheel Ramblings, that is no longer being updated. I enjoy sharing my photography, so this blog is the natural next step.

I am a transplant to North Carolina and resurrected my interest in photography about ten years ago. The advent of digital photography made this a viable hobby by reducing the cost and difficulty of developing film the old-fashioned way. I thought it was going to be a cheaper approach to the hobby until I purchased my first dSLR camera about six years ago. What I found out is that there is always a new lens or gadget or piece of software that I just have to get.

Regardless, the end result is that I’ve enjoyed hundreds of hours of pleasure capturing, tweaking and learning new things about the world of photography. And the best part is, I can do this well into old age…which is coming at me a lot faster than I like.

  1. Lee,
thanks for your comments. I am by nature shy, but over the last few years got better at photographing people.
My way of working is to use a good quality compact, turn the sound off and mingle with the crowds, sometimes I ask people if I have been in conversation with them. There are a couple of short written pieces in my pages section of the blog that say a few things.
I love doing people, my Panasonic compact only goes to 70mm so you have to get a little close, but you can crop in a little on the computer afterwards.
Give it a try, I will look out for the results.
    All the best
    Mike

    • Thanks for the feedback, Mike, I really appreciate it. I’ll take a look around your site and borrow some of your ideas. I’ve scheduled the last two weeks of the year for vacation and one of my goals is to get out and get some shots in the downtown area of Raleigh. They have a Winterfest going on, so there should be lots of opportunity.

  2. Go for it, I will await your pictures.

  3. Hi Lee, I just wanted to let you know that I named you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. Check it out at http://photosfromtheloonybin.wordpress.com/2011/12/27/kreativ-blogger-award/. I enjoy your blog and will definitely be visiting on a regular basis.

  4. Mr. Lee, I just saw your blog on a friends blog, thought I would check it out…glad I did. You have some great shots.

Would it be safe to assume you live in N.C.? If so what part?
I was born in Cherokee, NC, lived there about 10 years, moved to Oklahoma until my senior year in high school was almost complete then moved back to Cherokee.
Moved to Raleigh to attend N.C. State, then on to New York City, after about 4 years there I moved back to N.C. (Maggie Valley to be exact)
I travel about 5-12 days out of every 60 days for work.
I was thinking maybe if you were ever over this way we could meet for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
    Keep up the great blogs.

    • Raven, I apologize for not replying sooner. I keep forgetting to check my “About” page for comments.

I live in Raleigh, and I’ve been here since 1996. I would love to get together next time I’m in your part of the state. Same if you ever head into Raleigh. I do a lot of camping in the summer months, but we tend to camp in the Boone area or up in the area of Meadows of Dan, VA. I’ll let you know when we are out that way.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your comments. I truly appreciate it.
