Along Came a Spider

Along Came a Spider

Focal Length: 105mm; ISO 200; Exposure: 1/125 sec @ f/4.0; Camera: Canon EOS 20D (Click to Enlarge)

This spider appears to be suspended in mid-air, but is on a very fine web. That’s what I like most about this shot. There isn’t anything to distract the viewer from the spider.

I know I’m my own worst critic, but there a several things I will do different if I ever have an opportunity like this in the future. First, I’ll take the time to set up a tripod to make sure that the shot is absolutely sharp. The details in the spiders legs and the color markings are what makes this an interesting image. That would really stand out if the sharpness was spot-on.

Second, I would use a longer lens (my 70-300mm Sigma zoom macro) and really get in tight on the spider to really fill the frame. I think that would make a really powerful image. Not that this effort is particularly bad, but I’m always looking for ways to improve my results.

  2. Common on now…this is great! I love how it looks like it’s flying and there’s no web visible.
